Welcome to the official website of the Potosi Police Department (PD)!  The Potosi PD proudly serves the City of Potosi, its public, and the surrounding county.  The department is a historic department, with roots reaching back to an elected City Marshal in the nineteenth century.  In 1971, the voters of Potosi eliminated the City Marshal position.  Since then, the director of the Police Department is the Chief of Police who is appointed by the Mayor and City Council.  Today, the Potosi PD is under the leadership of Chief of Police, Roy Logsden.  Chief Logsden has a force of ten (10) full time officers, eight (8) reserve officers, and ten (10) patrol vehicles.

The City of Potosi (population 2,683) is nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks in scenic southeastern Missouri, within fifteen (15) miles of the Mark Twain National Forest.  Potosi is the County Seat of Washington County (population 23,000), a county with land area totaling 488,000 acres.  That land area includes 90,000 acres of National Forest and numerous caves, streams, and bluffs.

Visitors to Potosi/Washington County will find an abundance of things to see and do.  There are numerous historic sites to visit.  Potosi is a historic town that was settled in the eighteenth century by French miners.  These French settlers left behind many homes, buildings, and cemeteries that survive today. There are many trails to hike.  Some of the most challenging hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails in the state pass through the County.  These trails include Berryman Trail, the Ozarks Trail, Trace Creek Trail, and Moses Austin Trail.  And, there are lots of friendly antique/craft stores to shop in.
